Does your dog keep getting ear infections — no matter what you do?
You’re not alone.
So many dog owners clean, treat, and visit the vet again and again. But the infections always come back.
The good news is you can stop the cycle. For good.
These 7 tips go beyond just cleaning. They help fix the real reasons ear infections keep happening.
Please note: You MUST seek veterinary advice if unsure about your dog’s health. This is not intended to cure, treat or diagnose ear infections.

1. Keep Ears Clean and Dry
Yes, it’s basic. But people still forget this.
Yeast and bacteria love warm, wet places.
Dirty, moist ears are the perfect home for them.
If your dog swims or gets a bath, always dry their ears right after:
-
Use cotton pads or a towel. Most vets also offer drying solutions
-
Clean your dog’s ears once a week if infections are common
-
Use a gentle dog ear cleaner — not hydrogen peroxide
-
Never use Q-tips deep inside the ear. That can hurt your dog or push dirt in deeper
Clean, dry ears make it harder for yeast to grow.

2. Add Probiotics to Help Good Bacteria Win
This is the most important tip. It's often the thing that finally works.
Your dog’s body is full of tiny germs — good ones and bad ones.
Together, they’re make up the microbiome.
When the good bacteria are strong, they keep bad bugs under control.
When they’re weak (like after antibiotics), infections can easily take over.
Just as doctors recommend probiotics to women for yeast issues,
Vets recommend probiotics for dogs.
And the best probiotics for dogs are dog-specific supplements.
Specifically Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species are proven stop yeast growing.
💡 Bonus tip: Add prebiotics too — things like chicory or pumpkin. These “feed” the probiotics, and help starve unwanted bugs.
Supporting the microbiome helps the whole body — especially the ears.

3. Feed a Diet That Doesn’t Feed the Yeast
Some dog foods can cause (or feed) yeast — especially kibble with lots of starch or grains.
Carbs turn into sugar, yeast loves sugar.
That means some diets make infections worse.
Also, some dogs are allergic to foods like chicken or wheat.
These allergies can cause itchy skin and ear infections.
Try switching to a simple, low-carb food with fewer ingredients.
Many owners see a big change when they remove chicken, or switch to a raw diet.
Better food = better biome, better ears, happier dog.

4. Look for Hidden Allergies
Many ear infections are really caused by allergies.
Either to food or things like pollen, dust, or mold.
If you treat the ear, but not the allergy, it will keep coming back.
Signs of allergies include:
-
Itchy ears or paws
-
Scratching all the time
-
Ear infections that never go away
Talk to your vet about trying a food trial or checking for allergies.
Sometimes removing just one thing (like chicken) makes all the difference.
Fix the allergy, rebuild the microbiome, and you’ll fix the ears.

5. Give the Immune System a Boost
A strong immune system helps your dog fight off infections on their own.
You can use natural supplements like:
-
Probiotics - Defends against bad bugs
-
Omega-3 – calms itchy skin
-
Turmeric – fights swelling
-
Quercetin – helps with allergies
-
Colostrum – boosts immune strength
Some owners use all of these together and get great results.
Try one at a time and see what helps.

6. Be Careful With Antibiotics and Drops
Sometimes antibiotics are needed.
But if you use them too often, they can make things worse.
Antibiotics kill both bad and good bacteria:
Which means infections can come back quickly.
Use antibiotics only when really needed — and always finish the full treatment.
For mild cases, try natural cleaners or ear drops made for yeast (ask your vet).
If your dog has been on antibiotics, probiotics are a must (see #2).

7. Be Patient and Stick With It
Fixing chronic ear infections takes time. It’s not always a quick fix.
You might need to try a few different foods or supplements before finding what works.
One dog owner said:
“It took a year of trying things. But now my dog’s ears are finally clear. I feel like I finally know how to help him.”
Don’t give up. Keep going.
Note From The Founder
Hey,
I’ve been where you are, and honestly I didn’t think my girl Peanut would get better.
I tried literally everything I could find, online and from the vets.
All the supplements, all the drops, all the vinegar and tea solutions, you name it.
But things did eventually change. Peanut’s ears and skin did improve.
And in my desperate mission to help her,
We've helped thousands of other dogs.
I partnered with Vet of 21 years, Dr. Bryan Dart.
And that’s how our viral Pre & Probiotics were born: BetterBlend™
This is my proudest achievement, I call it the ‘holy grail’ of dog probiotics.
It’s made with 5 probiotic strains, with solid science behind them.
What started as a support for Peanut went viral.
And now thousands of UK dogs use BetterBlend™ for ear, skin, and gut health.*
I’ve probably read a bookshelf worth of emails from grateful customers.
One this week told us it completely stopped her Spaniel’s ear gunk and smelly skin.

PS - I called it BetterBlend™ because it made my girl better. A bit cheesy, I know. But it means something to us, so we will be keeping the name.
*BetterBlend™ is a natural support for long-term ear health, designed to aid natural, existing, processes like yeast balance from the inside out.
